Designed at OCAD for a Editorial Design Class
Magazine Project
In designing this health-focused magazine spread for my portfolio, I aimed to create a visually engaging and informative layout that encourages readers to embrace a healthier lifestyle. I chose a soft, pastel color palette to evoke a calming and welcoming atmosphere, which helps set the tone for content centered on wellness and mindfulness.
High-quality images were essential to give the spread a polished look, while the organized layout was carefully structured to guide readers smoothly from one section to another.
Through this project, I was able to explore layout, spacing, and typography in depth, developing a keen eye for detail and alignment. This exercise in editorial design taught me how to create harmony between text and images, enhance readability, and deliver an overall cohesive message—all skills that are vital for impactful editorial work.
Designed as a personal project for a Mock Book
Smoothie Cookbook
In creating this smoothie cookbook, I began with extensive research into other cookbooks to gather inspiration and understand effective design elements. I explored a range of cookbooks, analyzing how color, layout, and typography work together to create an engaging reading experience. I noticed that successful cookbooks often use color strategically to highlight ingredients and add visual appeal, a concept I embraced to make each smoothie bowl recipe feel as vibrant as the ingredients themselves.
For the layout, I aimed to keep the design clean and inviting, allowing the colors of the smoothie bowls to stand out. I utilized ample white space, which not only avoids overcrowding but also enhances readability and draws the reader’s attention to each recipe image.
This minimalist approach fosters a serene and organized look, making it easier for readers to navigate the book. In terms of typography, I focused on readability and aesthetics, selecting modern and approachable fonts that enhance the friendly and fresh feel of the book. Each element was carefully considered to create a cohesive, visually appealing cookbook that would resonate with readers and inspire them to try the recipes.
